Video Producer
Recently I opted for a pop up green screen that I could use to shoot in a conference room. I ordered from Amazon and got exactly what I expected. There were a few issues I knew I was going to fight with this kind of product. The material is thin and light passes through it so you have to be careful to mask any back lights that emit from behind your setup. Secondly, only having an hour to setup, there were going to be some wrinkles that didn’t fall out of the key.
I’ve used many different chroma key backgrounds in the past few years with variety of varying results. Nothing will replace taking the time to properly light a key as well as having the proper space. I used 4 x 4 Kinos to light the key and to soft boxes to light the subject. Setup took a half hour after all was said a done. As always the key is to control spill which is much easier to in this situation as opposed to using a large key wall in a studio.
There is one major issue with this product that I didn’t foresee. The green side had banding in it that looks like it caused by different color threads being used to create the fabric. I pointed it out below. These variations really soured me on the product and I don’t think I would recommend it or purchase it again.

Modern keying software lets you get buy with so much these days that you can use these kind of products and turn out a good result. I can’t even imagine what it must have been like to key using film and a chemical process.
